Translucent, giving no definite idea of it's mass or shape. It seemed to travel through walls and float in the air over her. Occasionally it would move close and look directly into her eyes. Samantha would notice a shadowy pigment to the thing as it's eyes grew larger and closer to her own. Dark and penetrating, yet impenetrable. They pierced her like a sword passing through her soul. The shape would then quickly zip away through her window without it breaking. At that point Samantha realized frightfully, it was not how bizarre life had become, but how it always had been.

I am a spy working within the bowels of the government. I attained my role purely by accident. For it was never my choice to be a spy, but life, like it had for so many things, chose this role for me. I could see the red triangles that accompanied my partner’s voice whenever he spoke.  My partner is not a spy like me. He is a company man on probation. His dreams are to milk the system that I have successfully infiltrated by chance.
       He spoke with a slight country accent. The very instances when he would combine his nouns and adjectives to say, “Y’all know what I’m sayin’. We smooth’em out and forge ahead.”, would cause the red triangles before my eyes to twirl obstructively. At times I found it difficult to pay attention to him without giving myself away, but as long as I concentrated and let the shapes, smells, tastes, and feelings pass through me, I found them to be aids in my cause and there is no test that can give my gift away.        By gift I mean that I am one of a select breed of humans. One who can taste shapes upon his tongue by merely seeing them. Or see odors and sounds before my eyes like geometric patterns on maps. These feelings varied greatly upon the people and places I would encounter, but despite the fact that very few like myself could detect them at all, let alone determine them to be the same sensations made me a valuable asset to the resistance that had developed under the oppression of the good intentions the ruling class had over it’s citizens. There can only be one set of blinding red jaggers floating through the cosmos and it was theirs that was deemed fit to occupy the space we lived in.
