I was born in Wyoming but grew up in Colorado and still consider myself a Colorado boy, despite having lived in the Bay Area since 1990. I started writing seriously and submitting to magazines when I was 14. I went to Clarion in 1987 in East Lansing, and had the best 6 weeks of my writing life there; I met professional writers for the first time, I hooked into the science-fiction writing community and made life-long friends, and I learned how to write: 4 of the stories I wrote in Michigan were eventually published. I've written a bunch of published stories since then, but I've seldom written so fast or consistently well. I'm living now in Oakland, CA, with my wife, two cats, and a dog. I'm tech writing for Bank of the West, though I was a tech-writer and programmer for various Silicon Valley software companies for 20 years.
Cyberpunkish, visual, generally plain-spoken, except when I get fancy and try to imitate my heroes: Lucius Shepard, William Gibson, Cormac McCarthy, Harlan Ellison, etc. I also have a steampunk mode where I write very long sentences and try to parody Borges.
