Writing Style
When I set out to write a sci-fi or fantasy story, the end result is frequently weird, has dark undertones, and doesn't fit neatly into a defined genre.
When writing stories, I usually first come up with a world/setting, then figure out who lives there, their motivations, and the conflict(s) that will drive the story. (The characters have to be dynamic, or else I lose interest in what I'm writing.)
When writing poems... I just write the words that want to come out. I'm learning more poetic forms and structures, but most of my poetry tends to be free verse.
