Writer Bio

Award-winning author of fantasy & dark fantasy (Shadowbridge), historical thrillers (Fitcher's Brides), and sf (The Pure Cold LIght), and lots of shorter fiction, too. Finalist for a 2014 Bram Stoker Award. Winner of a 2015 Asimov's Magazine Readers' Award.

Writing Style

19th century technology: fountain pens and notebooks. First comes the brouillon (for the French among us), the chaos draft. Then out of chaos sometimes form, sometimes more chaos. I would be considered a pantser except that I outline. I just tend to ignore the outline once I have one. And you see where that's gotten me.

Writing Goal

I'm revising a novel I undertook last year at this time, a supernatural screwball-comedy murder-mystery (good luck figuring out which shelf in the bookstore that goes on—it's keeping me up nights) involving real estate, hauntings, and bad things happening to bad people for a change.

Fundraising Goal

To the top supporter, a signed copy of my short story collection from Golden Gryphon, Attack of the Jazz Giants & Other Stories. This collection is now out of print, and will be accompanied by a signed, numbered copy of the limited edition promotional chapbook included in collection's pre-release orders: an interview conducted by author John Kessel and illustrated (as is the collection) by Jason Van Hollander.
