On The Web
I applied to Clarion twice--rejected outright the first time, placed on the alternate list the second time. MOTIVATION. I went on to write The Unnatural, Serial Killer Days, Second Coming Attractions, Dating Secrets of the Dead and numerous off-trail stories which have appeared in the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Subterranean magazine, various Ellen Datlow projects and a number of fine anthologies.
Pretty darn outré.
I will attempt to write two linked novelettes during the Write-a-Thon, 15,000 words apiece. I seem to keep reworking the main elements of the project, which is fine up to a point, but eventually you reach the stage where you're just shuffling the pieces around for fun and perhaps as a way to avoid the actual writing. Tethering it to the Write-a-Thon will help me ramp up the project in a major way. I once wrote a 7,000 word story in 3 days (and sold it on day 4!), so this goal should be well within reach. I've also been seriously training: writing five miles a day and eating alphabet soup for lunch going on three weeks now. I. Am. Prepared.
I was a bit shocked when I saw how much it costs to attend Clarion these days. Any pledges or sponsors will be greatly appreciated. I split the project into six sections, three for each story, for those who would rather pledge based on my progress rather than sponsor. If either novelette is published, those who pledge or sponsor will receive a free signed copy.
Alas, the Clarion Write-a-Thon has ended, with $12,907.77 raised so far! However, we are still accepting donations. Thank you for your support!
