Writer Bio: Ashly Nagrant is a girl who does things. These things include performing with Literazzi and The Beat Cabaret, stage-managing for The Typewriter Girls, seeing her writing in print in Pop Damage, DOOM! and more, and being a part of the Library Pirate Venture art collective. Sometimes famous people talk to her on Twitter.
Writing Style: It really varies. Sometimes reading my work is just like having a conversation with me, other times it's pretty obvious I'm trying to mimic/parody a style. I lean mostly towards "speculative fiction," which I suppose is the polite term for "my stories involve spiders that eat your dreams and steampunk mutant invasions."

Okay, okay, I'm not really aiming to ride a million giraffes. I am aiming to get motivated to work on and finish at least the first draft of a story idea I've had brewing since January. The working title is "I Have Seen the Apocalypse and It is Called 'Texas.'" It's based on an actual trip to Texas and some photos I took while there. Excerpts

Disembarking two days later, I finally had a chance to really breathe. A whirlwind of travel planning and dealing with crowded airports had left me feeling drained. But when I arrived in Austin the airport was dark and empty, no crowds pushing me or rushing me. I still can’t get used to being in crowds, even to this day. I know a lot of people with the same issue. Hell, it’s probably pretty common.

But there was no one to contend with as I made my way passed the closed storefronts and darkened terminals. There was only the soft thudding of my boots and the whir of the escalator, interrupted a few times by loudspeaker announcements warning listeners to keep track of their baggage at all times.

Mercy was already waiting for me outside, holding a lit cigarette delicately between two fingers as she leaned against her car. She took one look at me and rolled her eyes.

“Take that off,” she ordered.

“But I’m in Texas!” I protested.

“That’s no excuse!” she countered. She flicked some ash off of her cigarette. “Take off that cowboy hat, right now.”

Sighing, I reached up and removed the straw hat I’d been wearing for the last leg of my journey. “You ruin everything.”

“I’m doing this for your own good,” Mercy assured me as she opened her trunk and helped me load my bag. “Now come on, let’s get some coffee.”

“It’s a bit of a drive,” Mercy told me as we drove out of the gates. “About an hour. And first we’re gonna stop and get some water.”

“We couldn’t just get water at your place?” I asked.

“We could,” Mercy said. “But I really want you to see this place, so we’re stopping there for water. It’s right on the edge of the zone they just opened.”

“Sounds good,” I said. I turned and looked out the window, watching the city of Austin go by in the daylight.

“I know what you’re thinking,” Mercy said as she flipped on her radio. “And no, this isn’t Austin in a state of reconstruction. This is how Austin has always looked.”

My only response was to softly sing along with the music now flooding through the car. “What a nice surprise, bring your alibis.”
